OO September 1, New York State legislators extended New York’s residential and commercial eviction moratorium to January 15, 2022, and added an additional $300 million in federal funds to the state’s rental relief program, ensuring protections for tenants and landlords as the pandemic continues. Lester Bleckner & Shaw LLP is available to assist you through this process.
As with the prior eviction moratorium, protections will remain in place for homeowners and small businesses as well, with mortgage and tax foreclosures, lien sales and small business commercial evictions all on hold until 2022.
The legislation’s moratorium on commercial evictions and commercial foreclosure proceedings apply to small businesses with 100 or fewer employees that demonstrate a financial hardship.

Tenants must submit a hardship declaration, or a document explaining the source of the hardship, to prevent evictions.
